A story set in a parallel universe where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality is taboo.

Zanna, Don’t! tells the story of goings-on at Heartsville High School, set in the Midwest, where the jocks on the chess team dominate the school’s social ladder, the Girls’ Intramural Mechanical Bull-Riding Team set the rules for fashion, and every senior wants to be crowned Prom King and King or Queen and Queen. But the small community is turned on its head when Zanna and his friends stage a musical featuring a scandalous heterosexual kiss.

Reviews

You'd have to be dead not to get at least some enjoyment out of the University of Pittsburgh Rep's production of Zanna, Don't!
Pittsburgh in the last bitter throes of winter is not known for the kind of vivid color and unbridled exuberance that Zanna, Don’t!, the Off Broadway hit by Tim Acito and Alexander Dinelaris, brings to the stage in the current production by the Pittsburgh Repertory Theatre. And I, for one, am grateful that it does.
Theatre students at Pitt and Pitt director C.T. Steele romp through a delightful, charming, imaginative take on a goofy musical called Zanna Don’t! This 2002/3 off-Broadway debuter with book, music and lyrics by Tim Acito plus Alexander Dinelaris’ additions, has gone on to fame and fortune regionally and in London’s West End.
