In 1997, Julie earned a BA in Theatre and Writing from Juniata College. After a 5-year educational hiatus during which she got married and had two sons, she spent a year studying playwriting at Villanova University, then returned to Pittsburgh to complete her graduate education.
Academically, Julie's interest in feminism and postcolonialism led her to the study of Border Theory, and her research is primarily focused on Chicana playwrights and theatrical production in the borderlands. Theatrically, Julie then made the leap from playwriting to directing. She has directed two full-length plays at Pitt: After Ever After, which she wrote while at Villanova, and Desdemona: A Play about a Handkerchief. As a director and a teacher of performance, Julie loves to use Viewpoints, which she first encountered at Juniata in 1996.
Julie is working as a Senior Business Analyst at Wells Fargo Insurance Services in Johnstown, PA.
