Doug Mertz is an actor, director, coach and teacher who brings a wealth of experience as both a performer and educator. He has taught at post-secondary programs in the US and Canada (University of Alberta, Carnegie-Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Point Park University) as well as in private training programs including the Foote Theatre School and Point Park Conservatory (Pittsburgh, PA). He has appeared as an actor in the US and Canada as well – most recently at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre in The Long Weekend. Citadel Theatre acting credits include Clybourne Park (Sterling nomination), A Few Good Men, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, August: Osage County and A Christmas Carol. Doug has served as dialect coach on A Christmas Carol since moving to Edmonton in 2009 as well as on numerous other productions at the Citadel and other theatres. In 2010, prior to being named Director of the Foote Theatre School and Citadel Young Companies, he directed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for the Young Musical Company. Currently, he is teaching audition techniques to both the Young Acting and Young Musical programs.
