THEA 1392-26778 Special Topics: Performance - Audition Techniques

This course is designed to apply the foundational skills learned in Acting I and further develop audition techniques for various media such as stage, TV, film, and video. The course specifically addresses the unique demands of prepared monologues as well as cold-reading scene skills, simulating professional experiences. Students will present prepared audition material (monologues) and practice incorporating in-the-moment directorial suggestions or changes in a mock audition. Additionally, students will develop "cold reading" skills by learning methods of finding clues in the text (modern dramatic and comic scenes) with limited preparation time in a simulated callback. Students will also learn to appropriately adapt their vocal and physical choices to best suit different media by practicing auditions with text from stage, film, commercials, and industrials. The goal of this course is to decrease students’ anxiety about auditions by giving students the tools to make quick but informed decisions in a high-pressure audition environment.
